Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you to all who have served and are serving in our Armed Forces.

Every year this time of year, the poppies in the backyard bloom, and I recall the first lines of  "In Flanders Fields".  I remember listening to it in a Charlie Brown special I only saw once, but can only remember the first two lines.  In honor of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in defense of our freedom, I share this poem with you today.

In Flander's Fields
by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
 In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

  1. It's poppy season here too! Always reminds me of The Wizard of Oz . . . 'Poppppppiiiieess.' Did you know that poppy juice can disolve a wart within 24 to 48 hours? Just sayin'.
